Home Fire Safety Visits taking place

Home Fire Safety Visits save lives

Many people are at risk from fire in the home, from families with young children to older people living alone. A fire can break out for many reasons, from cooking being left unattended or an electrical fault, to candles not being used safely.

Avon Fire & Rescue Service (AF&RS) is often called to house fires where a smoke alarm would have provided the occupiers with an early warning that they were in danger.

The first part of a Home Fire Safety Visit process involves a telephone assessment, so we can work out your level of risk. This is calculated by us and takes into consideration factors concerning your property and the people who live there.

Following the assessment we will provide you with fire safety advice and may visit your property to make recommendations specific to your home and the people who live there. We may also fit smoke alarms if they are needed.  All of these services are provided free of charge.

Specialist visits and smoke alarms for people who are deaf or hard of hearing are also available - find out more on the Deaf community fire safety page.
