Hydrants

A fire hydrantAF&RS has around 20,000 fire hydrants spread throughout the service area.

Fire hydrants play an important role in protecting our community. In the event of a fire they give firefighters access to the mains water supply.

How can you help us?

Report a defective hydrant - our hydrant inspectors carry out testing and maintenance of hydrants and marker plates. However, hydrants can and do break from time to time - if you come across a defective hydrant, please let us know using the form.

Think before you park

It's understandable that when you find a space to park, you are going to use it. However we would ask that you avoid blocking hydrants when you park.

Obstruction of fire hydrants could place the lives of you, your family and your neighbours at risk.  If necessary, firefighters will forcibly move any vehicle blocking access to a hydrant.

Escape Routes
Escape Routes
If there was a fire would you and your family know how to get out? The best way out of your home is the way you regularly come in, but make sure you have other escape routes in case it is blocked. Make sure escape routes are clear of obstacles.
