Firefighters from Nailsea will be opening up their station doors to
members of the public on Sunday 5 September.
Tips on fire
safety and tours of the station and its life-saving equipment will
be on offer to visitors during the event at Pound Lane between 10am
and 3pm.
The firefighters
at Nailsea work on the Retained Duty System (known as retained
firefighters) and either live or work within five minutes of the
station.
When the
firefighters are ‘on call’ and required to attend an incident, they
are called to the station and respond to fire and emergency calls
in the same way as wholetime firefighters.
And as the station
is also home to Avon Fire & Rescue Service’s Urban Search and
Rescue (USAR) Team, the day will also include demonstrations of the
specialist group’s rescue capabilities.

Manager Gary Carr-Smith said: “We are really looking forward to
this open day and to welcoming members of the local community
through the doors.
“This is the first time we have held an open day at Nailsea since
the station was redeveloped in 2009. There will be plenty to see
for young and old alike!”
