Business case for diversity

A young man in firefighter uniform with his dad Avon Fire & Rescue Service, alongside the other emergency services, is in the privileged position of serving the community 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Our mission is to reduce fire deaths and injuries from fire related incidents. We have a long tradition of fire stations being part of the community we serve.

As a public service, the make up of our staff should reflect the diverse community we serve. This helps us forge stronger links with all aspects of our communities – key to improving safety.

What is the business case for diversity about?

It is about linking the issue of diversity to the core of our business. Diversity should not be seen as an add-on but is at the centre of our planning and delivery. This is part of the National Fire and Rescue Service Equality and Diversity Strategy.

What does this do?

It helps us as an organisation to maintain focus and it demonstrates very clearly the reason why diversity is essential to our service.

It also helps us understand how diversity can help us achieve our mission and vision, as in order to meet the needs of different communities we must engage with them.

If you have any questions about why diversity is important in our service, what we have been doing to promote a diverse workforce or find out more, please contact the Equality and Diversity Team.

Hoax Calls Cost Lives
Hoax Calls Cost Lives
Hoax calls endanger lives, as our crews may not be available to deal with a real emergency. If you make hoax calls your telephone number can be traced and cut off. Hoax calls can lead to a fine and criminal record
