The Chief's message

The Chief Fire Officer/Chief Executive of Avon Fire & Rescue Service - Kevin Pearson Thanks for logging on to our website where you will find all you ever wanted to know about Avon Fire & Rescue Service, and hopefully pick up some tips about keeping you and your loved ones safe.

Anyone who has been involved in a fire or a car accident will tell you how terrifying the experience is, but will also talk about the relief they felt when help arrived on the scene from an identifiable and trusted source.

This is how people feel when they think of the fire service - firefighters, trained to cope and offer assistance when presented with a range of life-threatening situations. And in some cases, not so life threatening, but nonetheless important to the person who has made that 999 call.

They are backed up by a wealth of support staff, who bring with them a range of skills and expertise in a number of areas from finance and human resources to mechanics and marketing.

But, today, as fire and rescue services change to meet modern needs, our role is also about keeping our community safe, to prevent fires and accidents from happening in the first place.

That’s why you will see within the site we have dedicated many pages to covering fire safety – from staying safe in the kitchen to why it’s important to have a working smoke alarm in your home. We also have details of fire safety for commercial businesses and how to cut the number of false alarms triggered by automatic fire alarms.

We have redeveloped the website to ensure you get the most from it. We feel it is important that the information and services detailed on these pages appeals to all, regardless of age, ‘web literacy’, ability or disability. With accessibility being our main aim, we have worked with the Shaw Trust on the design and content of the site. The new site will be tested by a group of disabled website users at the Shaw Trust, allowing us to ensure the site is accessible in real terms. Find out more about our website’s accessibility here.

I welcome your thoughts and ideas on our new website and the information it contains. If you have any comments please contact us.

Hoax Calls Cost Lives
Hoax Calls Cost Lives
Hoax calls endanger lives, as our crews may not be available to deal with a real emergency. If you make hoax calls your telephone number can be traced and cut off. Hoax calls can lead to a fine and criminal record
